Upcycle shopping in Berkeley, CA

My crew (aka parents) and I left John to finish the cork floor installation, in search for some recycled/vintage items for various DIY projects I have been imagining in my head. We met my sis at the Ashby BART and were on our way for some upcycle/recycled shopping in Berkeley. First stop, Antiques & Modern on Adeline. If you're in search for true vintage midcentury modern furniture, this place is heaven on earth. Teak dining tables, chairs, casegoods, upholstered furniture; you name it, they have it. I scored a beautiful set of vintage brass sconces, just like one of the reproductions I have been eyeing from online searches. More to come on the sconces.

Next stop, our family's favorite candy shop: Urban Ore a gigantic (but very organized) recycling center. Everything from toilets to wood and vinyl windows and doors.

While fun to look around, we struck out on any goods at Urban Ore.

We walked across the street to MacBeath, purveyor of exotic and domestic hardwoods. This is definitely not your typical Home Depot Lumber. I found great wood for a kids play table and reclaimed barn wood for an outdoor dining table.

Lastly, we ended our excursion with another Berkeley upcycle/recycled market: Ohmega Salvage. So many interesting vintage items, from enormous wood carving doors to historic/period lighting pieces. I bought another kids school chair to match one that I refurbished last year.
